Halloween is coming!

And to celebrate (and to post something since I hadn't in ages) I've searched Second Life for some spooky attractions for you to try. Halloween is one of my most favorite times of the year. Scary castles and haunted houses, crazy puzzles and tales of mystery. I hope you all have an awesomely wicked Halloween this year. Stay safe, plenty more vampires come out around this time of year, myself included. >=3

When I heard that the MadPea 2 sim was closing this month, I was saddened. Thankfully, that sadness didn't last too long because MadPea now has a shared sim called "Hoshi Island". The look and feel of this sim is totally different than that of MadPea 2, as it has more of a cartoony look and feel to it. Most of the games that are on MadPea 2 still until it closes at the end of the month (Like the 'Escape The Room' series and The Kaaos Effect) are not on Hoshi Island and I'm not sure if they will be added or not. There are plenty of things to do on this new sim though. Right now there is a murder mystery and a quest to free a chained character. The puzzles are wicked and definitely fun to do. Also, even though MadPea 2 is closing, the sim which houses the awesomeness that is The Devil's Labyrinth will still be there because it's a separate sim. So, visit MadPea 2 while it's around and be sure to check out Hoshi Island.

This was a landmark given to me in-world by someone I met on Hoshi Island yesterday. When I teleported, to my surprise I found it's a maze. The maze is very well made, with switches and secrets galore. Some of the ways to get through it are very well hidden. I only got stuck twice, but thankfully there are some helpful clues to keep you going. The clues do cost 1L each, but I doubt that you'll get stuck all that often anyhow.

This is a whole sim dedicated to all things Halloween. There are tons of shops around with all sorts of goodies. In one of the bigger stores there is a small "haunted house" with some free boots and shoes to grab while you're in it. The "haunted house" isn't really stimulating, but hey, free stuff! Then there is Pirate's Cove which is a short boat ride you can take that leads to a pirate ship. Nothing too interesting there either, but it is interesting.

Next up is Cave of DOOM, and I admit I started it thinking it was lame. It's a slow start, but it does get a bit more challenging after the midway point. You get a free Transylvanian skybox for making it all the way through, which is pretty cool. Grab it quickly though or it'll disappear. Near the entrance to the Cave of DOOM is an off shore island with some awesome fireworks displays. Set your sun to midnight and give yourself a few minutes to watch in awe of the pretty lights.

I don't even want to ruin this at all for you. Go see it for yourself. Best ride I've been on in Second Life. You go through 20 different rooms and the ride lasts nearly 20 minutes. Really captures Halloween if you want my opinion. =3

This is what you get when you throw tons of rides to give you whiplash and make you nauseous, a creepy haunted house, and a spooky corn maze all in one area! Fun for the whole family! Parents, please remember check the candy before giving it to your offspring.

This is a very awesome, well made, creepy, and spooky maze. It's not too short and not too long, not too easy and not too short either. It's one of the best mazes I've seen so go ahead and check it out.

More MadPea Madness!

This week I'll be letting you in a couple more games from MadPea.

"Escape The Room" is something that just blew me away. I'm a sucker for those browser-based "escape this" flash games. I'm sure most of you know about the series of these kind of games made by Toshimitsu Takagi: Crimson Room, Viridian Room, White Chamber, and most recently, Blue Chamber. I'll put a link at the bottom of this post if you've never played them before so you know what I'm talking about. They are definitely frustrating at times, but you feel so proud when you figure things out. And, if you do get stuck, there are tons of walkthroughs online that can help you out. "Escape The Room" by Mad Pea is exactly like those flash games. You get a free HUD and explore this small room, finding clues and items to help you get out. It's cleverly created and left me as proud and excited to have finished it as I would playing the flash games. The best part is, it's in Second Life so you can explore so much better than in the restricted confines of a flash animation. OH, and there is another version of "Escape The Room" too. It's based in the 70s!

"Reaction" is a fun little minigame where you get to be a laboratory technician, which is cool for people who are intrigued by science and how things are made. It may seem a tad boring for other people though, I'm sure. You get a free HUD and go from station to station around the room, slowly adding to your ingredient list. Some things you need are scattered around the lab as well. In the end you have a fun finale to watch. It had me giggling happily in eagerness when I figured out what I was making. So, if you're into science at all and feel like pretending to be a super smart laboratory technician, give "Reaction" a try.

There's also the frustrating challenge that is Chroma Sphere, which is similar to that awesome 80s game called "Simon". It is a sphere that has 8 buttons on it. Each level has you make the buttons all one specific color by clicking the each button until you get the right color. The levels get progressively harder by giving you less time AND the blasted sphere starts moving in weird ways to make it harder to click the buttons. The game itself is only $199L and you never have to pay to play it. It even has a handy high score script in it, showing the top 5 scores.

The Devil's Labyrinth

This week I'm gonna let you in on a very special maze by MadPea.

I must say that "Devil's Labyrinth" is absolutely beautiful to look at. It's built and textured wonderfully. When you first teleport to the place, the sheer size of everything seems pretty daunting. You'll need a HUD to be able to go through the maze so you can get the full experience. The HUD is only $25L, which is superbly priced for the experience you get going through this labyrinth. This huge place is crawling with rats, and even demons for you to destroy along your way. You earn EXP and level up, just like an MMORPG.

The environment of this maze is dark and medieval, which puts you in the mood for the journey through Path One: Lucifer. Yes, you read that right. There are going to be two more paths for this labyrinth, so that's three total. I honestly cannot wait for a chance to go into Path Two: Malum and eventually Path Three: Cerberus when they come out. A hint was given that perhaps Path Two will be released on Halloween 2010, so we shall see.

This first path is all about finding four specific items scattered throughout this huge maze. A staff, an axe, a talisman, and a chalice, in that order pretty much. There are a few other items to get and a bunch of puzzles to be solved to be able to get the four main items and progress onward. You will need to break crates and barrels to find gold, items, and potions that will help you. Gold isn't too important I've found so don't worry so much about that yet. Once you find all of the items you need, the final door with allow you to open it and escape.

Logos Throwdown!

The first ever Logos Card Tournament was held earlier tonight.
The turn out for the tournament at Critical Hit! was pretty great. Vickor Gearbox and all the awesome staff did an amazing job putting all of it together to make one kickass tournament. There were 3 categories of players duking it out for the glory of 1st place. The first category was players ranked 1-6, then the next 7-12, and the last category of 13-18 since the highest rank that has been reached at this point in time is 18. 24 players signed up to test their skills against their similarly-ranked peers. After four long hours, the winners were standing proudly.

I entered into the tournament, not expecting to get very far. Somehow I managed to claw my way to 4th place in the 13-18 category. I didn't get a prize for my efforts, but the fun I had playing was just as good to me. I battled Meg Ronmark twice during this tournament and both times the battle seemed to go on forever. I won the first encounter and she won the second encounter before kicking ass and claiming the 1st place spot for the 13-18 category.

The other two categories also had some long and crazy battles as well. Mineheart Scorpio snagged the 1st place spot for the 7-12 category and Gambit Madzuko grabbed the 1st place spot for the 1-6 category. All in all, the tournament was a big success, even with the small lag issues and other little bugs here and there. I know I, like many other players that took part, will definitely be ready and waiting to get another chance to claim a #1 spot whenever the next tournament comes around.

Card Collecting!

This week I'm going to introduce you to a great card game in-world.

It's called Logos and it's similar to other card games like Magic: The Gathering, Yugi-oh, and Pokemon. It does cost a bit of $L, but the socialization you get from battling other players is worth it. For the hermits like myself that have Magic: The Gathering cards, but no one to play cards with, Logos is perfect. You can play anyone with the game HUDs anytime, anywhere, as long as you have the HUDs on. There have even been arenas specially made for people to battle with Logos cards. The starter pack cost $299L and you get 25 demo cards (which are weaker than that of their normal counterparts) and both the Main HUD and Battle HUD. You can get the HUD by either going on XSL HERE or going to the store in-world HERE.

There are three main color cards; INFO (blue), ENERGY (green), and MATTER (red). There are cards that need you to play other cards to be able to cover the combo cost, some that heal you, some that do massive damage, and some that are just plain hilarious to look at. Most of the character images that appear on the cards we're taken in-world, which is cool. Decks do take a little time to create and usually include only two of the main three colors. There are countless combinations of cards you can have in your deck. You are allowed to have as many as 60 cards in your deck, but I've been told and found that around 25-30 cards is best so they cycle through faster and you can end up being able to play the same card multiple times in a single match.

The website offers a lot of great features for players to use as well. There is a ranking system where every battle you participate in, you get EXP whether you win or lose. You get more EXP when you win of course, and you get double EXP when you battle someone you haven't battled yet for the first time. And, as an awesome bonus, each time you rank up a level, you get a free random card. The other website features include; a list of all the cards and info about each one, a list of the highest ranked players, and a secure player area for you to manage the cards you have in your deck. So, if you're wanting a great game to play with others and meet new people while doing so, hop on over to the store and get yourself a starter pack. You most likely will not be sorry.

If you ever want to come find me for a battle or two, come on over to an awesome gaming shop in-world called "Critical Hit!" I'm there a lot, hanging out with the owners, managers, and random people that come in. I'll put the teleport link HERE. See you around, and have fun.

Killer Clowns!

To start off this blog, I think it is only fair to begin by showing you my all time favorite place to take my new friends to if they've not been to it already. It's called "The Carnival of Carnivorous Clowns" and it is an awesomely crazy maze.

Now, I really am scared of clowns thanks to me seeing the movie based on Steven King's "IT" when I was a small girl. But this maze... there's something about it that keeps me coming back. I've been through it at least 5 times since I came acrossed it the first time I searched SL for mazes. I love gathering a group of friends who have never experienced CoCC before and going through it with them, helping them when they get stuck. This maze is super colorful and definitely has a carnival feel to it. It's creepy and disturbing, but fun to make your way through. It's great hearing the reactions of my friends as they go through this maze (since we all usually make a voice chat when we do puzzles and mazes). Some people think it's amazing and others think it was awful and terrifying. I love finding out which of my friends act which way. So, if you feel like getting a little scared, take a trip to this insane carnival and enjoy the twists and turns you'll experience inside.

Introduction!

Hello all, my name is Eleanor Revestel and I LOVE puzzles. I wander around Second Life to find mazes and puzzle games to play. Most are complete crap; whether they're made poorly or end up boring as hell. I've started this blog to hopefully give you some insight into fun things you can do on Second Life and shed my opinions about the hunts, mazes, and puzzles I do in-world. So stay tuned, I have plenty of awesome places on Second Life to show you all. =3
